The major conflict of Uglies is Individual vs. Society, as in Tally vs. Special Circumstances. Tally's operation is postponed until Dr. Cable and the rest of the Specials tear apart the Smoke so that no more Uglies run away. After accidently setting off the tracker, Tally does everything she can do to protect the people of The Smoke, going against Special Circumstances.
